BL!NDMAN [sax]

Bach's organ music with an innovative Belgian saxophone ensemble!

BL!NDMAN [sax] is a living organ, driven by human breath. The organ was the Baroque era's synthesiser, with a large register and the ability to play with different tones and sound colours. In BL!NDMAN's innovative interpretations of J. S. Bach's organ music, melody lines in the complex organ works are distributed to five saxophones. With an extensive registry, from soprano saxophone to tubax (double bass saxophone), the organ's full range is covered. The different voices become clearer when they are played by various saxophones, and exciting dialogues are created when one voice is spread over several saxophones to cover the entire register. The human breath that drives the sound of the five wind instruments also creates a unique dynamic.

Eric Sleichim's contemporary music ensemble BL!NDMAN is not just any saxophone quartet. BL!NDMAN [sax] is part of a collective that has been in continuous development since 1988 when Sleichim established the quartet. Although the make-up of the group is traditional for a saxophone quartet, BL!NDMAN [sax] has developed unique performance techniques. They also expand the saxophone repertoire by collaborating across art forms and by playing both contemporary music and early music (the saxophone was only invented in the mid-1800s). In addition to BL!NDMAN [sax], the collective includes BL!NDMAN [drums], BL!NDMAN [strings] and BL!NDMAN [hybrid].
