Terje Tønnesen, conductor

The Renaissance merges together with the previous century when the Norwegian Academy of Music’s chamber orchestra performs music by Vaughan Williams (1872–1958), among other things on a theme by Thomas Tallis (1505–1585). At the same concert, the academy’s chamber choir sings works by the 200-year-old Anton Bruckner (1824–1896), who celebrates his birthday in 2024 at the same time as the Norwegian Academy of Music turns 50. With organist in place, it is time for a magnificent production, as a large proportion of Oslo’s musicians come together to convey this mighty music.

Programme:

The Norwegian Academy of Music’s chamber orchestra under the direction of Terje Tønnesen:
R. Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending and Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
A. Bruckner: Adagio

The Norwegian Academy of Music’s chamber choir under the direction of Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl:

The Norwegian Academy of Music’s chamber choir was founded in 2007, and consists of students at the academy. The choir sings the most important choir works throughout the ages, from Bach’s Magnificat to fully produced opera performances. The academy hires top-level conductors to direct the chamber choir’s biannual projects.

Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl is a choir conductor and associate professor in choir direction, and has taught at the Norwegian Academy of Music since 1991. Sparre Dahl has been the conductor for Schola Cantorum, one of the country’s leading chamber choirs, since 2002, and has since 2014 received the state’s 10-year grant for established artists.

Terje Tønnesen is one of the country’s greatest violinists, with an international career both as a soloist and chamber musician. Tønnesen was the artistic director for the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Camerata Nordica in Sweden, as well as 1st concertmaster of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2015, Tønnesen was appointed Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.
